I usually build my paintings in several stages, starting with a loose block-in before gradually developing form, colour and light. Only in the final stage do I introduce selected details that bring the painting to life. Throughout the process, I try to avoid overworking and allow some of the spontaneity of the early brushwork to remain visible.
